This month, Serpents U.S. frontman Andrew Mikhail, will be “hanging out” on display at the world-renowned art competition known as “ArtPrize” this year; which is an independently organized international art competition that takes place in Grand Rapids, Michigan every year. Not only does the competition celebrate artists working in all mediums, from anywhere in the world; it also is a chance for people to roam about the city, and take-in both, the city and the art. Andrew will be featured in prominent Grand Rapids artist, Bud Kibby‘s, 2-D installation entitled: “Normal Relativity {To be normal would be a waste of the potential that is screaming for revelation}“; which can be seen from 9am-10pm (see schedule for hours), at the beautiful DeVos Place Convention Center.

To explain his work a bit more, Kibby had this to say:

“In this body of work, I am combining analog and digital photographic techniques, taking portraits of “alternative” people, printing them on “alternative” media, and using “alternative” equipment in the form of large format photographic equipment and lense(s) from the era of the advent of photography and celebrating the alt. I am interested in what makes something or someone alternative and what basis we are using to measure normality. To aspire to be normal is an immense waste of creative human potential and is a sad state frequently causing the death of the dreamer. We are encouraged to assimilate and some become believers of this encouragement as law. I encourage anyone who is interested in alternative culture, tattoo and modification acceptance in the workplace, or anyone who agrees that there is no normal–to follow my work.”

Seems pretty in-line with what the Serpents U.S. Movement, is all about.

Mikhail took to Instagram to briefly share some thoughts as well:

“What an honor it was to be a piece of @tinyuproar’s exhibit at this year’s ArtPrize (an annual city-wide art competition where artists all over the world use the city and businesses of GR as an exhibit for the global competition), and from what I am told…it is quite the accomplishment to have had the piece installed in the renowned DeVos Place convention center–very cool!
